Nightmares

Nightmares

There is always another night to catch up on sleep. It is deep and restorative and stretches beyond the horizon after daylight has broken. At the moment it is none of those things. There are apparitions of monsters in the early hours of the morning. A dragon that lives in the bronze statue at the foot of our door. It’s supposed to ward off evil spirits but serves to destroy what we can’t jealously guard.

It’s OK — you will survive.

A coffee with butter and ice cream, and honey toast is what is needed. It is delicately made with a smile that does not understand. Balls need to be thrown at 6am. The world needs to be unlocked and explored. Cuddles need to be given and tears wiped away. Another night will arrive soon.
