Grow to give

Since November the garden has been generous with Zinnias. They grow astonishingly fast from direct sowing with an electric array of blooms; they are the song to honey bees.

Each Zinna is like a little hydra – you can chop one flower off and you get another two. Chop two off and you’ll get four. As I have many indoor plants and because a house has lack of beneficial predators I rarely bring the flowers inside (for risk of pest infestation).

Rather, innocent pedestrians met along my morning commute (and at work) are victims of flowers.

They are usually surprised and thankful as I would be. Sometimes people refuse the offer – I’ve never asked why but I’m always strangely confused.
