ABOUT ME — I first made the transition to digital products after working as web designer and content editor — it was a natural transition to leveraging my skills. Prior to this point I was an editor and writer for numerous publications working in high functioning teams of sub editors and journos — I’ve always found the infectiousness of team camaraderie inspiring. So, I could write, photograph, edit using all the creative products. I knew digital products and how they functioned because I used them every day. Of building websites I knew good design intuitively but from here I wanted to expand my vocabulary — you know, put some flesh on the bones. Enter Human-Centered Design.
This. Stuff. Just. Made. Sense.
I was writing about good product design for years on my blog, but this HCD. It was a light-bulb moment.
In late 2019 I commenced study at RMIT in User Experience and User Interface design. I found the studies fascinating and really rounded off my understanding of how best-practice design should occur according to the user needs. Working in the health care sector for many years I got to see the staggering cost of poor design to the bottom line.. What we call “services to patients” are “products” —how well thought out is their user journey? Are we really placing the patient at the centre of the experience?
In this sector I have been able to blend my love of all sciences and solving problems with creativity. I’m naturally curious and love the arts as much as the sciences, so I bring a fresh perspective to innovation.
In 2021, I received my Product Management Certificate from RMIT Melbourne. As of today, I am currently working in Web Transformation within Gold Coast Health rolling out products within the D24 Strategy. This is the most ambitious digital change program of work within a Government health service of QLD –anticipating and responding to the needs of Australia’s fastest growing region.
Paid work aside, I have many other pursuits wine writing, cycling, running, photography, bread baking, cooking, gardening, architecture, philosophy — which I do time permitting — while balancing being a father to two equally inquisitive little girls.
