I used to work for a food wholesaler and we supplied some of the ingredients to Jus Burgers, and that was my first introduction to the place, although I had known Justin from his previous place of employment. The first time we went to Jus Burgers (Leederville) I ordered the Spanish burger...delicious. The second and third times I was less impressed. The service was slow, the burgers came to us all 'thrown' together, and I might add I think they were thrown from a great distance, and the tables were greasy...all round fairly unpleasant. And so with that I haven't been back.

The logic that locally sourced ingredients are fresher is quite correct and I might agree that there's lesser carbon footprints. Still it must be taken into consideration that it's the cooking and the cook's tongue that determine the taste of food. There are people who are just gifted in terms of the taste sense, even in preparing hamburger patties.

Readers may be interested to know that less than a fortnight after this entry was posted, Jus Burgers opened a second restaurant in Subiaco. Just across the road from the train station, it's a bit bigger than the Leederville one.

Great article!

I think you may find that, with some more research, that locally sourced food does not automatically mean lower carbon footprint.

Case in point....20 local trucks vs 2 less local trucks.

Local food just enhances local ties and ties between the resto. and the providore.
