[Watch this space] Small Bar Perth (Mezza Tapas)
For those that grace Beaufort Street would know there used to be an old shop at 513. Correct me if i’m wrong but was it a kebab shop, right? I remember it because there is a florist further down the road with the most amazing blooms. They’re always beaming towards the sun, perfect to take a few happy snaps.
But I digress.
So there’s going to be a small bar in that retail cavity left behind. I saw the Notice of Application the other week. Yes. It took me a while to actually blog this, and hopefully full renovations are well underway.
Mezza Tapas is the name.

Consider yourself corrected
513 Beaufort St was the long time home of a fantastic little restaurant called Suraj Indian Cuisine. Roger and Susan (Su-raj) ran it for the better part of 20 years and the food was amazing.

My earliest memory of Tapas dates back to 1975. Yes only 14 years old. I travelled with my parents through France down to Malaga south of Spain. Nothing really fancy just robust fishy dishes, sausage, bread, olives etc. I loved the idea that you didn’t have to choose just one dish but instead try everything a little bit. The patrons would just throw little bits of bone from their sardines on the ground and stray cats would eat them. Never seen anything like that before.
Nice splash of colour between two black and white posts.

Excellent!
I’m shocked that the recalcitrant Town of Vincent might actually deign to allow someone to open a small bar within its boundaries… I wonder if the owners have already gone through the council approval process? I’m not sure if that comes before or after the liquor license.

PS I know there are already a couple in the Town of Vincent (Double Lucky, Cabin), but the council has knocked back several for arbitrary, bullshit reasons. They thought that TAFE students might be ‘lured’ over the road to a proposed small bar that was going to specialise in French wine and cheese.
PPS Good blog!
